Regator is in Private Beta!

by Scott Lockhart on July 3, 2008

The blogosphere’s a big place. There are at least sixty million blogs online right now, according to Discover magazine, and about 175,000 more are added every day (about two every second). The team at Regator, a next-generation blog aggregator going into private beta, spends more time than they’d care to admit selecting blogs that are relevant, useful, well-written, frequently updated, and original.

Regator gathers the world’s best blog posts and organizes them in a way that makes it easy to find the things you need—and fun to discover things you never knew you wanted. It’s here to help users of all skill levels find, discuss, share, rate, and organize information on the topics they care about. At Regator, users can:

· Save, organize, discuss, and rate posts

· Browse Regator’s channel hierarchy to find quality content that interests them

· Listen to audio and create playlists

· Watch videos without leaving the site

· Create custom RSS feeds

· Find out what the blogosphere is buzzing about with Regator’s What’s Hot List (or get specific by finding out What’s Hot in a particular channel)

· Create Keywords and have posts on those topics delivered straight to their personalized My Regator page

· Save and manage their Favorite Blogs and Favorite Channels

· Discover posts that are kinda related to the one their currently viewing with Regator’s “Kinda Related” button.

· View the highest rated, most commented on, or newest posts from all of Regator’s blogs—or within the topic of their choice

· Search the blogosphere for first-rate posts on any topic

· Share posts with friends (Coming soon!)

· Overcome their fear of alligators by bonding with Reg, our charming mascot

Regator differs from traditional blog aggregators because it relies on quality over quantity. Rather than striving to catalogue every blog on the web, Regator weeds out the junk and focuses on creating the leading collection of high-quality blog content. Currently, Regator features more than 3,000 blogs in over 300 categories, yielding up to 9,000 new posts per day. More blogs are added every day.

Regator’s fast, clean interface makes it simple for less savvy users to find content that is relevant to their interests, while its impressive array of tools and options give advanced users the ability to customize their experience. The site’s use of Ajax serves to add functionality, not flash, and the entire site has been built so that new features can be added quickly as the site and its community evolve.

We are excited to launch the site and contribute to the community by helping to make the blogosphere a better place. In the coming weeks, we will be adding mobile capabilities, widgets for bloggers, and acting on feedback from our users to improve the site in general. We will also be blogging far more regularly from now on!
