Ask RiotACT: Where is the historic rates info on the ACT Gov website?

I just received my notice and my rates have jumped –  a lot higher (over $75 a week and that’s without the basic water supply charge). I can’t find a page on the ACT Government website with the history of rates increases  – they seem to assiduously delete the historical information exactly so that we won’t reference […]

Ask RiotACT: Last mile transport options

2 days agoAustralia / Canberra : RiotACT

Hi all, Looking into ‘last mile’ options for commuting from my house to the bus stop, and then from the bus stop to work (and in reverse) each day. All up, it’s about 2km per segment (8km per day) in order to keep the bus commute reasonable. Obviously, a bike is a good option, but […]

Sage impresses the foodiest of diners

2 days agoAustralia / Canberra : RiotACT

Sage Dining Rooms is something of an institution in Canberra fine dining circles. It feels like it has been around forever. However, the chefs have not been resting on their laurels, they have been working hard to maintain their exacting standards. This has been achieved partly by holding regular “Taste and Test” sessions with the […]

No I can’t! The pressure of independent politics

3 days agoAustralia / Canberra : RiotACT

‘You’ve got no chance.’, is the advice that politics experts gave me when I told them that I wanted to run for the ACT Legislative Assembly. ‘Don’t do it. You’ll look weak.’, is what my campaign manager and friend said when I proposed writing about exactly how it felt to enter politics as an independent. […]

Following weeks (or was that months) of questions over land dealings and major developments, and now audits being announced into departmental processes, the Chief Minister has  gone on the front foot and announced an idea to change his government’s methods of consulting on ‘Urban Redevelopment’. It is all about using quotas and not time based methods. (click here) […]

Fun police cancel Australia Day Live

4 days agoAustralia / Canberra : RiotACT

If the argument about potentially dangerous storms raised by the National Australia Day Council in defence of its axing of the Australia Day Live Concert was applied to every outdoor event organised in Australia, most rugby, league, AFL, soccer and cricket matches scheduled to be played in grounds around Australia every weekend should also be […]

Let’s do this, Canberra

5 days agoAustralia / Canberra : RiotACT

Josh Mulrine’s WhatsApp profile sums the Business Manager of the RiotACT up, really. It reads simply: “Let’s do this ????”, with a rocket emoji punctuating it to give you that sense that things are about to take off. Yes, Josh is the kind of bloke you want around if something needs doing. He’s irrepressible. He’s also entrepreneurial, well-connected […]
