The Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report was released this morning for last week. Claims rose 43,000 from an upward revision of the previous week to 431,000. That is a 10% increase for the week and a 4-week moving average increase of 5.4%. Here is the official statement from the Department of Labor:
In the week ending April 30, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 474,000, an increase of 43,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 431,000.
