Civil War 150th: Jackson Beaten at Kernstown

March 23, 1862 - Confederate forces are beaten at the First Battle of Kernstown.  Advancing down (north) the Shenandoah Valley, Maj. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson (right) attacked Union troops under Colonel Nathan Kimball on March 23 near Kernstown.  Operating with faulty intelligence, the Confederate leader believed he was attacking a force of roughly the same size.
