Titanic wreck designated as a UNESCO protected site

The wreck of RMS Titanic, located 4,000 meters below the ocean’s surface, has officially been declared a UNESCO protected site. The final resting place of the ship has been designated as an Underwater Cultural Heritage site by the UN agency. The upcoming 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the ship has sparked numerous tributes and events globally, as well as raising bigger questions on rights for exploration, and the possible exploitation of the ill-fated oceanliner.
