They did it. They finally got me seriously hooked on a free-to-play, browser-based game. With something that feels an awful lot like a modern take on Herzog Zwei, of all things. Before I know it, this crazy dream could end with me putting up real money to unlock pay-walled digital goods. The horror.
The game I'm referring to here is AirMech, and the aforementioned "they" are Carbon Games, a studio made up of people who worked on Fat Princess.
Snobs will try and bring up Herzog Zwei, but really, the RTS genre as we know it starts with Westwood's classic Dune II, which while playing a little rough around the edges these days still looks amazing. More »
