Todd Akin (Official photo) Missouri's Republican Senate candidates were asked at a debate whether they wanted to see federal student loan interest rates double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent, and Rep. Todd Akin apparently decided he sure doesn't need the votes of young people: Akin said the government should be out of the student loan market altogether. "America has got the equivalent of the stage three cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no business tampering in," he said.
