The Alabama Crimson Tide announced Friday that backup quarterback Phillip Sims is transferring out of the program, with no established destination just yet. Last year, Sims was the top backup to A.J McCarron, appearing in eight games to throw 28 passes, but he'll have little chance of taking over the top job any time soon.
His exit moves Phillip Ely up to the backup spot for now, with freshman Alec Morris coming in to compete for playing time.
