US and Chinese officials were staying silent on the whereabouts of escaped dissident Chen Guangcheng on Saturday. A leading figure in China’s human rights movement, Chen escaped house arrest in Shandong province last week after 18 months inside. He was said by activists to be under US protection in Beijing.
