Despite taking criticism for its policy, Spirit Airlines has refused to refund the $197 ticket of a 76-year-old with esophageal cancer whose doctor told him he can't fly. Jerry Meekins, 76, of Clearwater, Fla., bought the ticket to Atlantic City to see his daughter. But his doctor told him he has months to live and his immune system is so compromised a flight would definitely make him ill.
