Reading Radar: Avoiding Insult to Injury in Climate Adaptation Efforts

Climate change is expected to produce winners and losers – for example, melting ice-caps may open up new economic opportunities for Greenland at the same time as sea-level rise threatens Asia’s bourgeoning coastal mega-cities. The same can be said about plans to address climate change, from both the mitigation and adaptation perspectives. A special issue of Global Environmental Change, “Adding Insult to Injury: Climate Change, Social Stratification, and the Inequalities of Intervention,” takes on this topic, with two case studies providing particularly compelling evidence.

Geophysicists employ novel method to identify sources of global sea level rise

Academics / General Science : Science Daily (2 years ago)

As the Earth's climate warms, a melting ice sheet produces a distinct pattern of sea level change known as its sea level fingerprint. Now, geophysicists have found a way to identify the sea level fingerprint left by a particular ice... Read Post

Melting Of The Greenland Ice Sheet Mapped

Academics / General Science : Science Daily (5 years ago)

Will all of the ice on Greenland melt and flow out into the sea, bringing about a colossal rise in ocean levels on Earth, as the global temperature rises? The key concern is how stable the ice cap actually is, and new Danish researc... Read Post

Future sea level rise from melting ice sheets may be substantially greater than IPCC estimates

Academics / General Science : Science Daily (last year)

Future sea level rise due to the melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets could be substantially larger than estimated in Climate Change 2007, the Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC, according to new research. Read Post
