Radiation from deep space: We are all hit by particles of mysterious 'dark matter' around 60 times an hour

2 years agoNews : The Coming Crisis

Dark matter is a mysterious, unseen material thought to make up most of the matter in the universe - but it turns out we may run into it more than we thought. Particles of dark matter known as WIMPS - weakly interacting massive particles - are absorbed by everyone on Earth at a rate of about one a minute, as billions of the particles pass through us.The physicists behind the theory claim the rays are harmless - and negligible next to known sources of radiation such as cosmic rays and the earth's radioactive radon gas.

Academics / General Science : The Daily Galaxy (11 months ago)

In an ultra-quiet environment, the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) dark matter detector searches for dark matter particles dubbed "weakly interacting massive particles," or WIMPs. Thought to comprise more than 80 percent of the matter... Read Post

Mass limits of dark matter derived from 'strange' stars

Academics / General Science : Physorg Features (4 years ago)

(PhysOrg.com) -- Much of the matter in our universe may be made of a type of dark matter called weakly interacting massive particles, better known as WIMPs. Although some scientists predict that these hypothetical particles possess ... Read Post
