Jonathan Lethem discusses the slippery nature of the science-fiction classification. “The name’s always been a mistake,” he says. “I’d say that it’s all gray. The categories themselves are as gray as the area between them.” He talks about liking science fiction as a child, before he knew that “science fiction” existed.
