The Neon Museum in Warsaw, Poland

After the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953, the Eastern Bloc went through the so-called Khrushchev Thaw that saw a relaxation of social and cultural repression. In Poland, one consequence of this shift was an era of "neonization," an official policy to bring some of the glitz of Western nightscapes to the streets of Polish cities. The Neon Museum seeks to preserve and display the signs produced under this odd, charming state program.
