Berkeley water main break closes streets

A water main in Berkeley broke Tuesday afternoon, prompting street closures, officials said. Berkeley police issued an alert asking the public to avoid several downtown streets, while East Bay Municipal Utility District workers were responding to handle the main and the mess, officials said. University Avenue between McGee Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way were closed, as were Addison Street between Martin Luther King Jr.
