Portugal's Guterres poised to be next UN Secretary-General

Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres was on Wednesday (October 5) poised to become the next United Nations Secretary-General after none of the veto-wielding powers on the U.N. Security Council voted against him. The Security Council has been holding a series of secret ballots until a consensus is reached on a candidate to replace U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of South Korea who steps down at the end of 2016 after serving two five-year terms.
