I bought Google Home instead of Amazon's Echo — here's why (GOOG, GOOGL, AMZN)

I've been sold on voice-controlled digital assistants since I was a little kid. How could I not be? I grew up with "Back to the Future 2" on VHS and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in primetime. More to the point, how could anyone not be? The concept of handling casual tasks by voice rather than touch is incredibly appealing. It's no surprise that Amazon's Echo device, with its voice controlled assistant named "Alexa," is such a hit.
