A mondegreen /?m?nd??ri?n/ is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near-homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning. When introduced to new people, they hear Natalie, Maddie, and Maggie. At work, people address emails to Natilia and Natasha. She called her Irene, but her name is Ilene. Tiny movements, like a tic. Little edits make it. Ten years later, it happens over and over.
