This is the final installment in an eight-part series on the relationship between the GOP and African Americans. Previously examined issues included the GOP’s campaign of voter suppression; their failed attempts to jumpstart urban prosperity with so-called “Empowerment Zones;” their attacks on affirmative action and its effect on African Americans’ access to higher education; their so-called “school choice” plans, which have largely resulted in increased school segregation; the return of open racism and the growing influence of the alt-right; birtherism and Obama derangment; and the rise of a new invisible and silent Jim Crow.
