Animal Illustration Reference

Albrecht Dürer's 1502 drawing of a rabbit or hare is one of the pictures in a new book called Animal Illustration: The Essential Reference. The collection starts in the 15th century and includes many examples from the Victorian era, including these chromolithographs. Some of the animal illustrations are natural-history renderings that attempt to be objective, while others are character drawings that use anthropomorphism to bring out the animals' personalities.
