In season right now: the hairy crab (??) or otherwise known as ''da-zha-xie''/ big hairy crab (???) is an iconic autumn delicacy in Shanghai cuisine and eastern China. Normal hairy crabs can be eaten all year round, whereas the big hairy crab are eaten between September and November (that's now!). They're prized for the female crab roe, which ripen in the 9th lunar month and the males in the 10th.
