Builder seeking SF project OK offers land for affordable housing

The developer of a hotel and condominium project next to the Warfield theater on Market Street has agreed to buy a surface parking lot two blocks away and donate it to the city for an affordable housing site. All but $2 million of the fees is required under the city’s affordable housing regulations that allow affordable units to be built off-site. The land dedication comes as the Market Street project — which will include 242 condo units, a 232-room hotel, eight retail spaces and a new workshop for Magic Theatre — heads to the Planning Commission for a Nov.
