Injury-plagued Vikings sign former No. 1 overall pick to patch big hole

The good news is that the Minnesota Vikings are 5-0 and have looked absolutely fantastic so far. The bad? Injuries have cut into the team’s depth and threatened to kick in the law of diminishing returns at any point. No position has been hit hard more than on the offensive line. The Vikings have signed free agent offensive tackle Jake Long and placed Andre Smith on injured reserve as a way to hopefully stanch the bleeding a bit up front.
