When It Comes To REITs, Not All Dividend ETFs Are Alike

Don’t assume that your divide ETF or mutual fund owns real estate investment trusts. Yes, REITs have long been synonymous with income investing. In fact, all but three of the 97 REITs in the S&P 1500 index paid a dividend as of Sept. 30. But at CFRA, Todd Rosenbluth, the director of ETF research, points out that exposure to REIT stocks among dividend-focused ETFs and mutual funds can vary greatly.
