Animal rights group accuses Berkeley of retaliation over protest

A group of animal-rights activists who staged a takeover protest at Berkeley’s Chez Panisse restaurant last month are accusing the city of retaliation over their protest activity. Friends of Direct Action Everywhere received a Sept. 30 letter from the city attorney saying it was in violation of several provisions of an office lease in the Telegraph-Channing Mall and that it would face eviction unless fixes were made.
