Further Assessment of the Effects of Young Ovaries Transplanted into Old Mice

Not so very many years ago it was noted that transplanting young ovaries into old mice resulted in extended life. There is still no good understanding of why this happens, and which of the numerous changes produced by this transplantation are most important in determining life span, but researchers here focus on beneficial effects for the immune system. Age-related failure of the immune system negatively impacts a wide range of important functions, including wound healing, destruction of senescent and potentially cancerous cells, and maintenance and support of neural tissues.

The research noted here, in which scientists transplant young stem cells into old mice, is a logical exploration of the bounds of the possible along the lines of parabiosis studies, in which the circulatory systems of old and young ...

Thymus Transplant Extends Life in Old Mice

Amidst the preprint list of the Rejuvenation Research journal, I see an interesting paper I'd somehow missed: life span can be extended in old mice by transplant of a young thymus. Noninvasive Neonatal Thymus Graft into the Axillary...
