The Writing Life: Building A Nation, and Not Sand Castles in What Was Once a Vast Desert of the UAE

For me, at least, it's impossible to write about the United Arab Emirates without seeming like a sentimental booster. I have lived here for 10 years, and with each day of that decade my admiration for the Emiratis grows. It grows because they transformed a barren desert into one of the world's most vibrant countries. It grows because they welcome outsiders like me to join in the high adventure of their nation building.
