Wildfire burning near Lake Tahoe grows

A fire burning northeast of Lake Tahoe that has destroyed nearly two dozen homes grew to nearly 3,500 acres, officials said Saturday. More than 850 firefighters are battling the blaze, located between Incline Village, Nev., and Washoe Lake, as the fire continues to be pushed by high winds toward the east, officials said. Residents on west side of Washoe Lake from the Bowers exit to the bottom of Franktown Road were under evacuation orders and power was off in the Old Highway 395 area to avoid “arcing power lines” in case of high winds, according to the forest service.
