Steven Woolfe has quit UKIP.
Woolfe was favourite to replace Nigel Farage as leader of the party but was hospitalised in Strasbourg earlier this month after an alleged fight with a fellow UKIP MEP.
Woolfe issued a statement on his website late on Monday night saying the party is "ungovernable without Nigel Farage leading it and without the referendum cause to unite it."
"The party is riddled with infighting, proxy wars between rival camps and is run by an NEC that is not fit for purpose," Woolfe says.
