It isn’t prayer that’s at the root of the governor’s prayer initiative—rather, it’s unwavering (and mistaken) faith in the individual and the free market. Over the past few weeks, a conflict has unfolded in Kentucky, revealing a split in American Christian conceptions of the individual and the individual’s role in society.
