BET’s “F--k Tha Police” Fantasy: Who Knew The 80’s Were Relevant Again

Variety writer Sonia Saraiya, on June 28, found that NWA’s single “F--k tha Police,” released in 1988, is still relevant thirty years later. Why is that? The song has “trenchant lyrics about police brutality” that are “as unsettlingly relevant today as they were in 1988,” according to the writer. BET found it appropriate for the present as well: they made an entire episode of Tales that centered around the controversial lyrics by depicting a dystopian society that is heavily segregated.
