George A. Romero Dies: ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Icon Was 77

George A. Romero, the director whose 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead all but invented the modern zombie genre, has died at 77 of lung cancer. His death was reported by The Los Angeles Times following confirmation by his producing partner Peter Grunwald. According to the Times, Romero died while listening to the score of the 1952 film The Quiet Man, with his wife Suzanne Desrocher Romero and daughter Tina Romero by his side.
