Slippery liquid surfaces confuse mussels

(Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard) Mussels are one of the worst perpetrators of biofouling, or the unwanted accumulation of organisms on underwater structures. A team of scientists from the Wyss Institute and NTU, Singapore has demonstrated that a lubricant-infused surface effectively prevents mussels from sticking by masking the solid surface with a layer of liquid.
