The Equifax breach of up to 143 million accounts exposed the 'crown jewels' for fraudsters

A data breach at credit bureau Equifax may have compromised up to 143 million people's personal information on Thursday. Here's how to find out if yours is at risk, and what to do about it if it was. Credit expert John Ulzheimer, formerly of FICO and Equifax, told Business Insider that although data breaches might almost seem run of the mill these days — think Yahoo, MySpace, Home Depot, and Target — the Equifax breach is a bigger deal than usual for two reasons: the type of information compromised, and the breadth of the hack.
