Where’s Verne Lundquist? Why CBS’ legendary announcer isn’t on TV, ICYMI

The legendary play-by-play man stepped away from football after 2016. Tune into a college football game on CBS in 2017, and you won’t hear the man who’s soundtracked the network’s biggest broadcasts for two decades. Verne Lundquist, 77, retired from his play-by-play gig on the SEC on CBS, which he’d held since 2000. As part of Lundquist’s retirement, he also no longer has the call during the annual Army-Navy game.
