How to protect yourself from the massive Equifax data breach

On Thursday, credit reporting agency Equifax—one of the big three agencies that has all of our financial data—announced that its data was breached by hackers and 143 million records were potentially compromised. That's about one-third of the population. There are roughly 118 million households in the U.S., which means something like 44 percent of the population could be caught up in this breach.
