Somber SF ceremonies honor those killed in 9/11 attacks

With moments of silence and the ringing of bells, the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks was observed at all 44 fire stations in San Francisco Monday morning. As loved ones of nearly 3,000 people killed in the 2001 attacks in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington and in Shanksville, Pa., read the names of those who perished at public ceremonies, local fire firefighters wore their dress uniforms and saluted to show their respect.
