Turkey says it has bought Russia's most sophisticated missile-defense system

Turkey has agreed to purchase the S-400 surface-to-air missile-defense system. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he signed a deal to buy the missile system on Tuesday, according to The New York Times, citing local media. "Signatures have been made for the purchase of S-400s from Russia," Erdogan said. "A deposit has also been paid as far as I know." The prospective purchase was first reported several months ago, but Erdogan's announcement is the first confirmation Ankara has given that it has paid for the weapons system.
