New Southern Calif. fire near Santa Clarita shuts Interstate 5

A third fire erupted in Southern California just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, about 30 miles from Los Angeles, shutting down Interstate 5 in both directions. The fire broke out in the Rye Canyon Loop in Santa Clarita, and had grown to 5,000 acres and was 5 percent contained by Tuesday afternoon. The Rye fire came on the heels of two other wildfires raging in the region: the 48,000-acre Thomas Fire in Ventura County and the 11,000-acre Creek Fire near Sylmar and Lakeview Terrace close to the Los Angeles city limits.
