A key part of US policy on Jerusalem is staying the same — even after Trump's big embassy announcement

President Donald Trump made two big announcements on changing the US position on Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Trump also made clear that one of the most important aspect of US policy on the future of Jerusalem will remain the same. The US is not taking any position on how the city should be divided between Israel and Palestine. President Donald Trump announced that he would be moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognizing the holy city as the capital of Israel on Wednesday, changing a position the US has held on the city's status for decades.
