'Teetering on the edge of contraction': Britain's construction sector is in trouble

Britain's construction sector is "teetering on the edge of contraction," according to the latest PMI survey from IHS Markit. The sector showed a reading of 50.2 in January, down from 52.2 in December, and well below the 52 reading that was expected. The purchasing managers index (PMI) figures from IHS Markit are given as a number between 0 and 100. Anything above 50 signals growth, while anything below means a contraction in activity.
