Movie Review: Aftershock

Aftershock is a preposterous movie, but the genius thing about it is that it’s so totally in on its own schlocky premise that it approaches being good. Definitions of “good” obviously vary from person to person and so forth, but … Continue reading ?

Review: ‘Aftershock’ Shakes Up the Earth Alongside Our Expectations

Sometimes, despite your best intentions, you’ll walk into a movie with negative preconceptions instead of an open mind. It happens to the best of us, and while I can honestly say it’s an extreme rarity for me personally I’m still more than a little ashamed on the occasions where it happens. Show More Summary

Movie Review: Fate Is Cruel and So Is Aftershock

Was Aftershock just an elaborate ruse by writer-producer-star Eli Roth to justify an extended vacation to Chile? [BD Review] ‘Aftershock’ Rattles and Fizzles

I caught Nicolas Lopez’s Aftershock after it world premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last September, and wasn’t a fan. Since then, critics seem to be having fun with it, so I sent Bloody’s Evan Dickson in without warning to see if he could survive the violent Eli Roth-produced thriller. While he did enjoy it... 'Aftershock' Review: Indie Disaster Film Packs Sneaky, Snarling Punch

The first third of Aftershock tests both our patience and ability to watch pretty people sling cheesy lines across the dance floor. Sure, co-writer and star Eli Roth serves up some pithy laughs, but the funny banter can't distract us from vapid people canoodling in egregious fashion. Show More Summary

[BD Review] ‘Aftershock’ Is Fun… Until It Isn’t

Aftershock is a weird movie in the sense that I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. There’s a lot to like in the film, but I can’t recommend it as a complete work. It has a lot of great components, but it seems oddly intent on sabotaging itself with elements that just don’t... Read More
